Rachel Kornegay Obituary, Death – Rachel K. Kornegay, 71 years old, had spent her whole life in the Beautancus neighborhood located close to Mount Olive. She passed away suddenly in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at her house. Prior to beginning her career as a nurse, Rachel had worked in the manufacturing industry for Burlington Industries. Both Duplin General Hospital and SunBridge Nursing Home provided her the opportunities to use her nursing expertise.
Rachel is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Crystal and Creighton Fowler of Mount Olive, and Anita and Ryan Strickland of Beulaville; her cherished grandchildren, Victoria Gorman and husband, Caleb, of Garner, Colton Wade Fowler of Mount Olive, Dylan Strickland of Beulaville, along with fiancee, Ashley Hall, and Kaleb Strickland of Beulaville; and her four sisters, Wilma
Her parents, Willard and Sadie Ezzell Kornegay, as well as her four brothers, Ranson “Dick” Kornegay, Charles Dewey Kornegay, Carlton Kornegay, and Coy Kornegay, passed away before her, as did her husband of 54 years, William Scott Kornegay, who passed away on April 19, 2023; an infant daughter, Victoria Ann Kornegay; and an infant son, William Scott Kornegay Jr.
Funeral services will be held at Tyndall Funeral Home on Saturday, September 9, commencing at 2:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. on that same day. The Reverend Chris Turner will preside over the ceremony. Following the funeral, they will be laid to rest at the Maplewood Cemetery. The house of Kornegay is open for calls from friends and relatives as well.
