Mike Schifer Obituary, Death – Mike Schifer, 71, of Bucyrus died peacefully at Summa Health System of Akron on Sunday, September 10, 2023. Mike was born in Bucyrus to Marlin E. and Barbara J. (Charleston) Schifer on January 26, 1952. He graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1970. A mutual friend introduced him to Joyce Marie Rainey at a Good Hope Lutheran Church gathering that summer.
Mike was always a hands-on worker. In high school, he worked at Fairfield Engineering. He worked at Baehr’s & Seitter AMC Dealership for a few years as an auto body and engine repairman after graduating until joining Bucyrus Blades in April 1976. He retired after 39 years with them. Mike was happy for years thanks to music. Burnished Gold, a local 1920s–1980s band, featured him on rhythm guitar and vocals.
Lifelong member of Good Hope Lutheran Church, he served on council, as council president, as Stephen Minister, and in the praise chorus. Longtime Moose members Mike and Joyce had many meals and wonderful times with family and friends. Mike believed that why pay people when you can do it yourself? He did several “DIY” projects throughout the years, and his lads were always ready to help if it became too hard.
Mike always advised and guided. Mike felt utterly relaxed and connected with his loved ones when their family camped at Auburn Lake for years. Mike had one grandchild, but he loved spending time with her. He will be remembered for his years as Santa. He liked watching Fox News and other shows when not reading. Mike is survived by his mother, Barbara; wife, Joyce; sons, Chad and Nicholas (Georgia); granddaughter, Madeline Marie (and hoping to meet his soon-to-be-born second granddaughter, Noa Eden); brother, Larry (Shelly); nephew, Nathan; and brother-in-law, Richard (Velma Marlin and Jeremy, his father and son, died first.
