Michael MacEdward Obituary, Royal Canadian Air Force Veteran Has Passed Away
Michael MacEdward Obituary, Death – Michael John MacEdward Lived from October 10, 1964–August 25, 2023 We mourn the tragic death of Michael John MacEdward, a cherished son, brother, uncle, and Royal Canadian Air Force veteran. On August 25, 2023, Michael died in his sleep at home in Trenton, Ontario, leaving a lifetime of honor, duty, and dedication to family and friends.
Michael, known as “Mike” to family and friends, was born in Weyburn, SK on October 10, 1964. Mike is survived by his loving family: his father, John William MacEdward, and his girlfriend Sandy Hodel (Victoria, BC); his sister Kelly Sawchyn, her husband Sean, and their son Cash (Calgary, AB); and his sister Kathy MacEdward. He lost his mother, Georgina May Jones.
Mike graduated from Saskatoon’s City Park Collegiate High School in 1982. In addition to taunting his sisters, he enjoyed hockey and professional baseball and always wore a jersey. A few years after graduation, he entered the military and served his country with honor. He retired as a Master Corporal in 2012 after 25 years in the RCAF in air force stations in Calgary, North Bay, Comox, and Trenton. He toured every air force installation in Canada and several other countries, including his longest tour in Bosnia in 2002. Mike was a voracious reader with a library-like collection. This amuses his relatives, who never saw him read anything other than sports magazines as a child.
Besides nation, Mike was most loyal to Marley, his dog. They had many excursions, lengthy walks, and perhaps pizza and TV. Mike relied on Marles more than a pet; she was his life. After Mike’s death, we were lucky to find Marley the right permanent home with loving people and Labrador Retriever buddies. Thank you Dawn and Mike. Mike requested no formal funeral. Instead, his family will celebrate his life, exchange memories, and comfort each other privately. In memory of Mike, the family requests donations to their favorite animal rescue/SPCA or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
