Joan “Joni” Wrisley Obituary, Death – Joan Hila “Joni” Wrisley, age 67, of Alma passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Joni was the daughter of Orville and Joan (Whalen) Curtis and was born on January 13, 1956, in Clare. She graduated from Coleman High School in 1974. On October 18, 1975, in Sanford, Joni got hitched to Eugene Wrisley, her high school boyfriend and the love of her life. After almost 48 years of marriage, they had a lovely family, whom she treasured.
Joni started working with Tom Billig Flowers in St. Louis in 1976, and she eventually relocated to the Alma facility in 1978. She proudly served her community for more than 40 years until purchasing the company in 1993 from Tom Billig. She accepted every position with the only goal of providing the ideal flower arrangement for any celebration, and she helped the shop develop into the lovely boutique it is today. She was an Alma Rotary member, a member of the Michigan Floral Association, and a former chair of the Gratiot County Chamber of Commerce.
All forms of art were very dear to Joni. She never missed a chance to try something new, whether she was traveling or not, whether she was going to concerts, art fairs, or just exploring all the local sites. Joni was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who had an everlasting love for her family. Her pride and delight was her family. At her cottage on Lake Ann, her “Happy Place,” she cherished spending time with them.
In addition to her husband Eugene Wrisley, Joni is also survived by her father Orville Curtis, siblings Orville “Sonny” (Sophie Grimmett) Curtis, Julia Curtis, Brian (Pam Dashner) Curtis, Steven Curtis, Darwin Curtis, and two grandchildren, Sierra (Robert Rooks) Wrisley and Alexandrea (Aidan Badgerow) Escamilla. Her mother Joan Curtis died before she did. On Friday, September 15, 2023, at the Alma First Church of God, memorial services will be place. On Friday, there will be visiting from 11 am till the start of church services. Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home in Alma has been entrusted with the task of making arrangements.
