Gwendolyn McGarrity Obituary, Death – Gwendolyn Iris McGarrity, who was born on July 24, 1922 in Portageville, Missouri and passed away on September 3, 2023 at the age of 101 at the Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Center in Dexter, Missouri, was the daughter of the late Francis Boone and Beulah Hughes Boone. Gwendolyn Iris McGarrity was the daughter of Francis Boone and Beulah Hughes Boone. Gwendolyn had previous experience managing Ben Franklin businesses in the states of Missouri and Arkansas. 1949 saw the founding of Dexter Queen by both she and her husband, Leon.
They did so for a combined total of thirty-two years as owners and operators of Dexter Queen. She was the one who initiated and led the first Al-Anon sessions in Dexter, which she continued to do for the next 33 years. In the city of Blytheville, Arkansas, on November 7, 1943, she wed Leon McGarrity and they began their married life together. Mr. McGarrity passed away on August 30, 2011, two days before she did. She is survived by her granddaughter Theresa Wilson and her husband Curtis of Dexter, Missouri; and by two great-grandchildren, Tyler Wilson and his wife Logan, and Makenna Wilson.
Theresa and Curtis Wilson were her only offspring. Aside from her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Delores Gibson; her two brothers, Peck Boone and Bob Boone; and her sister, Phyllis Walton. In addition, she was followed in death by her parents. Mike Watkins will preside over the ceremony that will take place in the Dexter cemetery on the morning of September 6, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. and will be held at the graveside of the deceased.
