Frank Daniel Murray Obituary, A Precious Soul Has Passed Away
Frank Daniel Murray Obituary, Death – Frank Murray died peacefully on September 8, 2023, surrounded by loved ones at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Frank grew up in Ormond Beach, Florida, and was born in St. Augustine. Growing up one block from the shore, he spent many hours on the beach with friends as well as time hunting, fishing, and boating with his father. He attended High Point College after high school, where he met the love of his life, Reanza, to whom he was married for 56 years.
After graduating, he went to work for L&M Tobacco and retired after 32 years. He was certified as a law enforcement officer in 1972 and worked for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office on weekends and holidays for almost 20 years as a reserve (Major) Deputy Sheriff. He was also a part-time campus police officer at Wake Forest University. He got his USCG Masters Captain’s license after retirement and delivered scores of yachts by water from Florida to the Great Lakes for Riverport Marine Surveyors, Albatross Yachting Services, and other yacht brokers.
He loved on these journeys that took him through hundreds of locks and dams as he traveled the Atlantic, Erie Canal, Great Lakes, Western Rivers, and Gulf of Mexico. “Captain Frank” also spent 13 summers as Captain of the P/V River Queen, a 500 passenger riverboat for BB Riverboats in Newport, KY. Frank enjoyed being busy and participated on various boards at his church, Wesley Memorial United Methodist. His most recent project was to work as a buyer and transport food for his church pantry, which benefits Bolton Elementary School.
His parents, Fred and Mary Helen Murray of Ormond Beach, FL, brother-in-law Frank Reda of Ormond Beach, and nephew Scott Fahner of Ormond Beach predeceased him. Frank is survived by his wife, Reanza; sisters Millie Reda of Ormond Beach and Mary Helen Callaway (Larry) of Ackworth, GA; daughter Julia Murray Ezell (Corey) of Pfafftown, NC; and grandchildren Katherine and Joshua Ezell of Pfafftown, NC. On Thursday, September 14th, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., there will be a Celebration of Life at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1210 Bolton St., Winston-Salem, NC. Following the service, the family will greet visitors at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the West Forsyth High School Girls Lacrosse Program may be given to Doug Brawley, 6845 August Dr, Clemmons, NC 27012.
