Dr. Larry White Obituary, MSU College of Business Mourns Death Of A Beloved Professor
Dr. Larry White Obituary, Death – Dr. Larry R. White, Associate Professor of Finance Emeritus at the MSU College of Business, passed away on September 1, 2023, and the college is mourning the loss of their beloved colleague and friend. His age was 76. Dr. White is left by his wife of 55 years, Louise; son James Conrade White (Sissy), and grandsons Campbell, Durham, and Garrett; daughter Amanda White Charlton (John), grandson, Isaac Charlton, and granddaughters, Ansley and Emma Charlton; and brother, Robert White (Laura). Dr. White also leaves behind his daughter Amanda White Charlton, who married John Charlton; granddaughters Ansley and Emma Charlton; and grandson, Isaac Charlton.
Additionally, he is survived by a number of nephews. His parents, Dr. Rudolph A. and Virginia C. White, had passed away before him. His mother and father are both deceased. Dr. White obtained his undergraduate degree in economics from Mississippi State University. He was born and reared in Starkville, Mississippi, and graduated from Starkville High School. After that, he attended Mississippi State University. Both his Master of Business Administration degree in 1975 and his Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1985 were from the University of Georgia.
Dr. White, a veteran of the Vietnam War, was awarded a commission in the United States Navy, where he served for more than 32 years, both on active duty and in the Navy Reserves, before retiring with the rank of Captain. After working for a short time in commercial banking, Dr. White began his academic career at the University of South Alabama. There, he established a banking specialization, designed and taught all banking-specific courses, and was responsible for the concentration’s overall development.
After that, he went back to the institution where he had earned his bachelor degree and worked there as a professor of finance, the director of the banking excellence program, and the chair of the real estate department. Upon his retirement from the university in June 2007, he was given emeritus status. The John H. Poteat Chair of Banking, Professor of Finance, and Director of the Center for Banking at East Tennessee State University were all posts that Dr. White held until his retirement from ETSU in 2022. Dr. White was appointed to these positions in July 2007.
The services that will be provided will be disclosed at a later time. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in his honor to the Disaster Relief Fund of the American Red Cross.
