In partnership with her late husband Bob and devoted son Stephen, she ventured further, acquiring Henlow Grange. This dynamic duo’s ambitions knew no bounds as they subsequently added Springs Hydro, Forest Mere, and Champneys Tring to their portfolio, culminating in the creation of the illustrious Champneys group.
Dorothy’s dedication and unwavering commitment to her brand were nothing short of inspiring. She could scarcely fathom that a girl from a humble working-class background could ascend to become one of the world’s most influential spa operators. Champneys wasn’t just a business; it was her life’s passion. Even into her nineties, she diligently read guest feedback every morning, eager to discern ways to enhance the business. Today, the Champneys brand stands as a testament to her vision, valued at over £300 Million.
Dorothy is survived by her loving sons, Stephen and Simon, her cherished grandchildren – James, Daisy, Robert, Raffaella, and Barnaby – and her adored great-grandchildren – Charlie, Olivia, and Henry. Her legacy lives on not only in the thriving business empire she built but also in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
