Denzil Connick Obituary, Member of Blesma, The Limbless Veterans Has Died
Denzil Connick Obituary, Death – We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Blesma Member, Denzil Connick. A Falklands War veteran, he departed from this world at the age of 66, just three months after being honored with the British Empire Medal.
Denzil’s life was one marked by dedication and resilience. He embarked on his military journey as a Junior Leader at the tender age of 15, committing 12 years of service to the esteemed 3 Parachute Regiment. His bravery and sacrifice were etched into history during the Falklands War when, at 25, he lost his left leg at the hip. His account of that fateful day is a testament to his unwavering spirit and the sacrifices made in the line of duty.
“I was going along a sheep track when I was hit by a 120mm mortar. It took my left leg clean off and shredded my right leg. The other soldier I was with died of his wounds. I had life-saving attention at the scene and was taken to a field hospital at Fitzroy Cove, where I suffered a heart attack because I had lost so much blood. But the surgeons saved me and transferred me to the hospital ship SS Uganda, where I stayed for four weeks before I was repatriated to the UK.”
Denzil’s commitment to his fellow veterans and their families led him to co-found the South Atlantic Medal Association. For his selfless dedication to military veterans and their families, he was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM).
In this moment of profound loss, we extend our deepest condolences to Denzil’s family and friends. His legacy as a war hero and a tireless advocate for the welfare of veterans will forever be remembered.
Rest in peace, Denzil Connick. Your service, sacrifices, and dedication to your comrades will never be forgotten.
