Dale Willard Hoffer Obituary, Death – Dale Willard Hoffer, age 88, of Crestline, Ohio, lost his battle with an unexpected illness on Friday, September 1, 2023, at the Galion Avita Hospital. He was surrounded by his family. On May 22, 1935, Dale Hoffer-Climes was born in Fredericktown to Frederick Hoffer, who would later pass away, and Helen (Grubaugh) Hoffer-Climes. Josephine (Tesso) Hoffer and Dale Hoffer were married for a total of 41 years when she passed away. Dale would eventually tie the knot with Sandra (Baldy) Hoffer in the year 2006.
During his eight years of service in the United States Marine Corps, Dale attained the rank of sergeant. After completing his time in the military, he would go on to spend the next 37 years at GM working as a tool and die maker. Additionally, Dale was employed by Jackson Twp. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion, Ohio, where he attended services regularly. Dale was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time.
Dale is survived by his wife, his children Teresa (Fred) Foster, James (Michelle), and Christopher (Sue), as well as his sister Ellen Troutman, seven of his granddaughters, and eleven of his great-grandchildren. Dale was preceded in death by his brothers Charles Hoffer, Glen Hoffer, and Carl Hoffer, in addition to his own parents. On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, friends and family are welcome to call at the Mark A. Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, located at 223 W. Main St. in Crestline.
On Thursday, September 7, 2023, at eleven in the morning, the funeral service will take place at the funeral home, and Father Jeff Smith will preside over the ceremony. After the funeral, the burial will take place at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Crestline.
