Betty Phifer Obituary, Death – In Overton County, on November 5, 1931, Betty Jo Jolly Phifer was born to Earl and Kathleen Bilbrey Jolly. Later, they relocated to the Findlay neighborhood in White County, where they made their home. Her parents, four sisters, Rosa Nell Jolly as a baby, Earlene Jolly Graham, Patricia Ruth Jolly Howard, and Paula Eugenia Jolly, as well as two brothers, Kenneth Ray Jolly and William Dwight Jolly, all predeceased her.

Betty belonged to the Findlay United Methodist congregation. As her health deteriorated, she missed being unable to attend church with her church family. Betty loved athletics and enjoyed watching basketball matches, especially those involving her Tennessee Lady Vols team. Her favorite pastimes included chatting and spending time with her many close friends, family members, and grandchildren.

Betty was passionate about being of service. She worked as an LPN for more than 50 years in the medical industry. She began her work in the Old White County Hospital, where she assisted with a birth on her very first night there. Following her employment at the hospital, she performed work for CB Roberts, Robert Baker Sr., and Robert Baker Jr. Even after retiring, she remained passionate about assisting people. Throughout her lifetime, she remained dedicated to helping and loving people.

She is survived by her daughter Kim (Tim) Sanders of Le Bouchage, France, and son Chris (Lauren) Phifer of Quebeck, Tennessee. Her three grandchildren, Evin Hibbs, Paxton Phifer, and Ansley Phifer, were her pride and delight. Sisters Sue Sparkman, Linda Johnson, Sandra Lane, and Gail (John) Scoggins are also left behind. Ralph (Sharon) Jolly, Jerry (Phillis), and Billy (Terri) Jolly are the remaining brothers. She had several particular nieces and nephews who she adored, as well as one sister-in-law Peggy Jolly, one brother-in-law Merrill (Deloris) Howard, and many more relatives.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 11:00 am from the chapel of the Hunter Funeral Home in Sparta, Tennessee. The deceased will be laid to rest at the Old Zion Cemetery. On Thursday, the family will host visitors from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Joel Sparkman will conduct the services, while Brother Paul Allen will preside. Pallbearers will be Joel Sparkman, David Graham, Merrill Howard, Jeff Jolly, and Richard Lane. Evin Hibbs, Kevin Jolly, Brandon Jolley, Brent Jolly, Shaun Young, and Ross Jolly are among the honorary pallbearers.
